Coming from the very demure beginnings of a small town in Rio de Janeiro,  the residents of his town drew comparisons to the legendary Pele when he was just 17, they also predicted his meteoric rise to the top as his lethal, slick style of play, combined with his fervour for scoring fine goals could have only been accomplished to such fine execution by a true star.

Ronaldo set fire to every league, field and defender he came across, earning the rightful reputation as "O Fenômeno" ("The Phenomenon" for you slow pokes), and is widely regarded as the first star and best striker in the modern era of football.  His accomplishments can be seen in his impressive individual  accolades which include two Ballon D'or's and World Cup MVP's.along with the copius amount of silverware he's collected throughout his career.

In the years to follow, they've been numerous superstars to grace world football.  In this modernised era, we are entertained with a new generation of world beaters with the likes of the terrestrial Lionel Messi, the hardworking talisman Wayne Rooney and the superb Cristiano Ronaldo.  But we must admit, the real Ronaldo will forever be considered modern football's most legendary goal scorer.
